Ok, after wintering and before the start of the season I sterilise the aquaroll with 'Milton', draw it through the cold water system and leave for a few hours before rinsing out.

But do any of you use the tablets like 'aqua clean' each time you fill up the water container on site, just to be certain

No never have. Just sterilise the once at the start of the season and that's it but there again I never drink the water apart from boiling it to make a cup of tea.

In my years of 'vanning' I've never had a problem with the water and like you two I just rely on it once at the start of the season.
I also don't drink straight out of the tap but was thinking more like food prep, like washing salad stuffs. What got me thinking about it was me buying a 'hi power' replacement pump and when I removed the food grade hose from the old one it didn't look to appetising, it may well have been sterilised and bug free but visually not.

Anyhow, off to Rutland Water for a week on Wednesday, hoping for better weather than my Scottish outing last month.

I suppose you have the advantage Nick by having a new 'van', mine is 5 years old now and with same pipes it came with.

It's not so much the water quality on site or even the aquaroll which is easy to clean, but the hidden pipes that has been doing its job for 5 years.

We also just use the Milton Tablets once a year, just before Easter and draw it through the system like you and let it stand for a few hours. We also use the site water in the system for Tea, can't be ad messing about buying bottled water like a lot of people seem to do or keep going to the Service Point and filling bottles, never had a problem , yet. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

No, like you the site water goes into the aquaroll and everything comes from that, the dog hasn't complained yet

We have special tablets in the dental industry for cleaning and sterilising water lines, something called 'biofilm' grows on the pipe walls and it is important to leave the solution in long enough to destroy the film, the tablets we use have an initial shock to kill off the biofilm which Milton doesn't do.

Just watch out using "Milton". I'm pretty sure last time I checked it says on the bottle not to make it up in a metal container. If you're sterilising the whole system that means filling your hot water tank. It's bare stainless steel.
I tend to use Puri-clean powder twice a year and don't drink the water neat. Brush teeth and cook with it no probs. FL2 2007 57 GS

you need chlorine dioxide, sterilises, kills biofilm without tainting/tasting, cheap as chips , you just need a dosing pump to dose it in at 1ppm. My chickens are on this 24/7 At work

I use a cheaper type involving mixing a solution with hydrochloric acid on site, using special dosing pumps. repeated tests show the water remains sterile even in the chicken shed drinking systems. At work
