I have just recieved a personal message from Kelly / Liam at LR in response to an earlier question from me on engine build differences between the 160 engines and the uprated 190; the message included a statement from LR engineering that the only difference is the software programming!
I wonder then how we all can with earlier engines get either 2013 fuel economy or 190 BHP or both by reprogramming??

If you are towing....I wouldn't touch the manual with a barge pole !!
Yes I have a 13my manual and tow, I've done 3000 miles and the clutch is on the way out !!
If the clutch last 6 month I'll be doing well....I've done about 350 miles towing a 1500kg caravan so far,

I was hopping LR would put the new 9 speed auto into the Freelander 13my,

I run SD4 HSE auto:

If I drive miss daisy (my journey is always to Aberdeen/Ayr) then mpg is usually 40/42 (but did manage 46 last trip)

If the horns come out, I can get 35.... But that is when I am really shifting

The SD4 is much better than the Tiguan, more space, better performance and to be honest the Tig did not give that much better mpg (Tig was also auto)

Will be evaluating SD4 for towing this summer in Austria - the Tig was really good for towing, hope the FL2 is just as good

What do the m/s mean on the auto near the gearstick?

Manual?

Sport?

m/s as you guessed stands for manual/command shift and sport. Move the gear lever to the left and it will give you Sports mode. If you then push the lever forward or back it will switch to command shift (manual) mode.
