Freelander 2 Not starting Reduced engine power warning light

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but new to FREEL2. I have a 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 auto. Having a problem starting the car engine turning over OK ignition system on but when trying to start "Engine Power reduced" warning comes up. Issue started yesterday was driving on cruise control at 80Km/Hr when car appeared to stutter " engine power reduced" warning flashed up on screen but then disappeared. Car seemed to recover drove for approx. another 250metres and engine died. Engine would not start straight away. after about 5 mins of trying to start and putting fob in and out of holder engine started and appeared to be OK. Drove car back to house no problems engine ran well. Went to start a couple of hours later and as described engine turns over but not starting or attempting to fire.

Have ordered new fuel filter but is it common for filter to be 100% blocked. Have thought maybe faulty crankshaft sensor but no fault codes.
Anyone else had same problem or any ideas
Thanks for any help

Update 1 to above tried again to start this morning now getting HDC not available warning as well as Engine power reduced when trying to start.

Update 2 Have taken battery off car for charging.

As you have ordered a fuel filter I would go ahead and change it (fit a genuine landrover one) they don't need to be fully blocked to cause issues with fuel delivery.

I would also consider a new battery if yours is +4/5 years old.

Be handy if you had someone with a code reader to ensure you are not fault finding in the wrong direction

Add the extra earth lead if not fitted. All covered about where to where etc in search. If battery is old bin it. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Many thanks for info above. Have two OBD readers but both saying no fault codes stored. Will fit the filter and crank sensor today and see where we go from there. I will check the earth lead.

All fixed, failed crankshaft sensor the culprit. Fitted new one and she fired up no problem. Will leave the fuel filter until next service. Checked the extra earth strap and already has it fitted.
Many thanks
