United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Hopefully not, just another way to get emissions down in the EU's tests but in real life they're rubbish (think DPF's). Diesel's with this much torque don't need more than 6 gears. It'll be constantly changing. The 8 speed XF changes when on cruise at 70mph on the motorway on the slightest hill. It's unnecessary.

Think another way, the strengthened Special Type Goods Order trucks that transported our plant, rated up to 150 tonnes, manage perfectly well with 16 gears, and economy and expense is a lot more important in haulage than when nipping to the shops... Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35
Family's: 2009 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Auto, Stornoway

Yorkshire - God's County

That's a good point, low first would be good and answer a few questions as would a longer top gear.
9 is a lot though, my pride n joy gets by on just 3 Laughing

No.

All the thought of a "gearbox of many speeds" reminds me of my RG125 Suzuki and keeping it in the powerband Smile

(I wanted to quote from the original post but will probably get moaned at by a moderator...)
