JLR have reported a 32% increase in sales in January 2013. Freelander 2 sales were up 57% over the previous January.

Good news - they'd sell one more in February if they put the petrol engine in! |

Definitely good news. I notice there's no mention of how many Defenders they sold though... |

But they are making less profit, as most of the sales are FR2 and Evoke, which are (haha) "low end" models on which they don't make much. JLR have been keeping TATA afloat for two years but profits are down this year and TATA are in a spot of bother. I'll try to find the source for that...

The FL2 is undoubtedly cheaper but profit margins are likely to be higher than Evoque as tooling and other production costs are already well paid off unlike the Evoque whch is still in the early payback times. |

If you look at the amount of money going into product development over the next few years it's not really surprising that margins are down. LR are doing a push on Freelander at the moment and it outsold Evoque last month. |
