do we have both? because I had to "drive" out of a slide in snow mode last weekend on a corner (my own fault as I was braking around the corner) |

Yes both are fitted, I believe traction control uses the ABS sensors to monitor wheel slip angles in relation to speed and will kill the power and brake wheels to prevent them sponning and stability control uses ABS sensors, steer angle sensors and a yaw sensor to determine where the car is pointing in relation to steering angle, this is also part of the roll mitigation system, it can brake individual wheels to attempt to keep the car upright and going in the intended direction, with your scenario it sounds like it may have been better turned off?

aaah that would explain it, as I started to steer into the slide, the steering would have been pointing straight on for a second, at which point I felt like no assist was coming and decided to try waking it up by giving it the beans (which worked).. I turned casually to the wife and said "yeah sorry I just had to drive out of that one"... she hadent even noticed we were heading for the field and thought I was just mucking around lol...

If you have stability control, never steer into the skid, steer in the direction you want to go in. Foot off the gas If not! when the system sorts things out you will suddenly go off in the direction your wheels are pointing |

yeah it seems all about trusting the tech, not so easy after bumbling around in a defender with no DA for a few years : )
