BMW X1

Saw my old boss the other day with his new pride and joy........a BMW X1 Rolling with laughter

What a horrendous car it is! The Doctor said in the snow topic recently that he encountered one slithering all over the place in snow despite 4WD! Now I cannot see any good reason why you would want one instead of a 3 series touring. Fit some winter tyres to the 3 series and it will be ok in all but heavy/deep snow. The X1 will also be terrible off road and although I didn't get to have a proper look around it, I can conclude it is ugly.

Also I found this on an owners forum and nearly died laughing when the owner/member had the audacity to mention "off road ability" about the X3. That will be none then (compared to our glorious FL2's at least)

**P.S, I quite like some Beemers, my sister has a nice 3 series but I hate the X range. All inferior overall to LR products. 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

I think the new 3 series touring x drive looks an interesting car, a 2 litre 180hp diesel with their new 8 speed autobox and x drive, would be my ideal daily work car, shame it came out after i had to order a new lease car at work. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

The X1 that was sliding around in the snow might have been a 2wd version. I looked at them before I got my freelander. Still, I think the freelander is a better car. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Stevie, Kal-El is right, it was my good self that posted about seeing one slithering about and it said Xdrive on the back.

To be honest, if I ventured out into heavy snow on ungritted roads in any of the BMW X range (even with winter tyres), I wouldn't feel as safe and sound as I do in the FL2. Went on a call out last Saturday with Peak 4x4 and the snow was so deep on the main road that it occasionally hit the underside of the car as I drove over it.

Yes the X1 is hideous by the way IMO. Stick with a 3 or 5 series if you want a proper Beemer. Laughing Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Fair comment Doctor! The X1 I sat in I felt cramped. Much prefere my fl2. Two of the reps at work have new 5 series BMW's and they look smart. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

My next door neighbour got shot of a top of the range X5 and replaced it with a Defender 90 Van as the winter option, she said it just felt unsafe on the slightest incline. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

There's a Chinese student studying at Warwick university living near my girlfriend...in the summer he had a Maserati (new, with a lovely scrape down the side). As soon as snow was mentioned, in his own words, 'I need 4 wheel drive so I bought new X5M'. He obviously doesnt understand sarcasm though, as proven when i replied 'the Mazzer would be better in the snow...!' Oh and that's got a scrape down it too.

Same area (there's some nice flats around) another Chinese student has a Range Rover Sport, you guessed it, covered in scrapes.

Although I hate everything about the X1, as it is a totally pointless car, it is not pitched against the FL2. So not a good comparison. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........
