Tailgate opens when door button pressed

I have a strange problem that has just appeared. When I press the unlock button for the doors the tailgate also opens. Close the tailgate, lock the car and then unlock again and the tailgate stays closed. Leave the car for about 5 minutes and unlock the doors and again the tailgate opens. What is going on, can anybody shed any light on this issue.

Same problem with mine.
Fixed it myself recently.
Helpful people on here pointed out there are various posts about it on this forum, try a search.
A replacement tailgate switch costs about £31 from main dealer and fitting is DIY.
'Switch' means the bit you lift up with your fingertips to open the tailgate plus the actual electrical-contact switch associated with it, all in one unit.
But when you get the unit out you may find that just cleaning the old switch unit will do the trick.
The early units have a mazak (aluminium alloy) moving plate that corrodes and jams and can hold the actual electrical-contact switch down (replacement is all plastic).
The problem will happen intermittently at first.
But it'll get worse (or, at least, mine did). The quick brown fox

A quick update. I have changed the tailgate release switch and everything is OK now. While the handle was off I took the opportunity of putting a small bead of clear sealant around the edge of the now rock hard foam gasket, maybe now I can keep the water out. I also change the high level brake light for the same reason (plus I fitted a clear one instead of the red one).
