Just watching it now. What a legend!!!!! Colin was always one of my heros, spent hundreds of hours on Colin McRae rally games.

Agree, a great programme. I thought his Dad was brilliant to do it.

I saw the programme and was left with the feeling that he was a flawed genius. Seriously flawed. He pushed too hard when it was not necessary losing competitions because of crashes when he had enough lead to win easily without going barmy. The same characteristics seemed to have played a fundamental part in the fatal helicopter crash.

He could make a rally car fly but sadly not a helicopter, I heard he was showing off and flying too low at the time of the crash. |

Apparently he was flying 'unnecessarily low', but they couldn't work out why the aircraft 'deviated substantially from its path'.

Several things came together to make this programme really work. Firstly getting Hoy to front it - using someone who's 'been there, done that' in his own sport gave him a credibility which a mere presenter wouldn't have had. Secondly, the level of Jimmy's involvement - it wouldn't have been half the programme without him. And, perhaps most importantly, they didn't try to hide the flaws - it was made very clear that McRae's 'flat out' attitude lost him rallys, championships, colleagues, friends and perhaps his life. Although the extent of some of this was not revealed - there was, for example, no mention of the antagonism between him and Burns, particularly, and some of the other drivers. Similarly, nothing about the falling out with Nicky Grist - in fact if Grist was even mentioned I missed it! But overall a programme well worth watching if you have any interest at all in rallying.

Grist was on he even made a comment about when they crashed out and didn't win the world championship, something along the lines of, watch the crash again the look on my face says it all ! |

Oh, was that Grist! I thought it was still the other one. Must watch properly in future! |
