2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

i6 Brakes

I think I am going for another upgrade.

I know someone who has a brand new set of 16 front brakes. I could get them for a decent price so I may fit them just for the hell of it. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

They are bigger! So much so that you can't fit the standard 'S' 16" wheels on !

Wonder if they would make that much of a difference? trust you Mav! lol

May be bigger but according to Britpart quite a bit cheaper

They are quite a bit bigger so will for sure improve stopping distances. From alot of experiences upgrading brakes on my Vauxhall's over the years, adding bigger brakes will also allow you not to brake as hard and still get the same power in the brakes as the standard units. As said they are also cheaper than TD4 brakes.

Before I do this though, I am currently looking into another option.

As all FL2 brakes are the same as fitted to the Volvo S80, in Sweden they do a Brembo 4 pot system for the S80 which is a direct fitment to FL2, but you need a minimum 18" wheels as the discs are 343mm!

^^ I didn't realise the i6 had larger brakes.
That would explain why I think they are great stoppers.

4 pots sound interesting though

Mav, did you do this upgrade in the end?

Only reason I ask is that Carparts4less are doing the I6 calipers at around £60 each... and if I have to change the discs and pads any time soon, it could be worth spending the extra £££ for some better stopping power.

would the cars systems need updating so the car knows it has bigger and better brakes, im thinking about things like DSC etc

Whahoo, I didn't as the guy sold the brakes to some one else.

probably wont stop the car any better initially although should perform better when 'racing' less fade etc At work

Hmm... I wonder...
The brake master cylinder is the same. So the travel of its piston. Therefore, the volume of brake fluid expelled on one full push will be the same, right?

But the volume of multi pot caliper is considerable bigger.
So for the same pumped volume, the travel of all 4 pistons inside one caliper will be much smaller...
The same with the pumped volume when the ABS motor is working...
Are you sure it will be OK?

In my opinion, at least the master cylinder should be changed too, if not together with the ABS system.
Of course, I am referring to 343mm, 4 pots conversion.
Am I missing something?
