Well Mrs Mc took our car to TVLR earlier today, who confirmed the clutch is fubar'd. Probably due to the high biting point, as this indicates an auto adjuster failure. So next week, a new clutch is going in..... |

The slippage reappeared so my earlier optimism (see above) was shattered. Pessimists are never disappointed, so with my new found outlook I headed for my dealer, Farnell in Bradford. Car has 47k on, 59 plate, out of warranty, bought from new and serviced by dealer. No hard use, no heavy towing and in 30 yrs of driving I've never had a clutch go. Most of my cars have done well over 100k so I'm confident I was not to blame for my clutch's premature failure.

Had to laugh that we should be impressed by 80k on a clutch and even more so from a country reknown for unreliable cars (has anyone ever owned an Alfa?). Is it unreasonable to expect 100k + from a clutch on a vehicle sold on its toughness and engineering but rarely, if ever, used to its full? You can't help thinking economics comes before engineering here. 'Yes, of course we can make that better but how do we make more money if it just lasts?' 'Good point, I've got these springs out my child's bouncing toy, that should keep the cash coming in' 'Well done, lunch everyone?' (Extract from JLR drivetrain focus group minutes Aug 09, just before they made my FL2) |

Three. Never had a clutch go on one though! In fact they were pretty reliable. Last two didn't even rust...! |

True! First one was like a colander, but the others were ok. They weren't that old when I sold them though. |

I have been reading a few threads about clutch slippage. Mine is fine so far. The biting point is about halfway on the pedal. Is the automatic adjuster in the the clutch housing or is on the outside? Also, my FL2 is an 10 plate with eco stop start. Was this clutch modified for the eco stop start? Are they more reliable than the previous years? I only do about 5000 miles a year, car has got 35000 on the clock, hoping nothing major goes wrong, just about out of warrenty! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
