Just because LR put them there doesn't mean anything, (They probably use that type 'cos they are cheaper) They are a weight so as long as they balance the wheel it won't matter where they positioned. |

Maffs, Mine were on the outside when I bought the car and LR said that as they had no control over the severity of use that was the type they fitted. However if the vehicle will not be subject to hard off-road use then adhesive inner rim type could safely be used. Mine were put on by the local tyre shop and they have been there for nearly two years now with no problems Ralph

When I had my tyres replaced the fitter removed the external weights and cleaned the wheels. I never looked to see whether he'd moved the balance weights inside or did away with them but the wheels were perfectly balanced. |

I have the 18'' HSE rims, and due to the rim design you cannot fit the balance weights on the outside. You put the weights on the inside part with the adhesive tape. I have done 90,000Km and I never had problems with the weights. |

May I reccomend using a proprietary wheel cleaner and fully scrub the inside of the wheel rims before going to the tyre shop for any balancing with internal sticky weights. Adhesive weights will stick and stay stuck to clean paint. If you don't clean them I've seen the fitters use production paper to scrub the muck off (sanded or dirty, the adhesive will not hold properly)

Any wheel can be balanced just on the inside. Our machine at work even has a 'hidden weight' mode where the correct weights can be fitted on the inside of the wheel, hidden behind the spokes so that they are not visible through the wheel rim. Inside balancing uses 'stick-on' weights (or a combination of stick-on and clip on) which are not re-useable so they are more expensive. Go to a decent tyre shop! |
