oooo a loadspace cover

Noticed in the local paper today that dealer is advertising the black and white special edition FL2s.

Why do LR still think that adding such a basic item as a loadspace cover is anything to shout about - it is embarrassing that such a basic item is not included as standard on all models when you're paying that much for a car. I'm struggling to think of another car that doesn't come with loadspace cover as standard.

They will have a marketing person who travels by bike or train, completely detached from motoring.
I too chuckle to myself at some of the things they consider features, look at the Freelander S, waffles on about about grill surround and fender vents, on the inside there is cloth, stop and think about it, it is basically saying this model has nothing, it is a mode of transport and nothing more.
As you say the new Black and White limited edition with its load cover, the first line states "offering two striking colours" eerrrr ....where? As you say, a little embarrassing.

The campaign is quite clever though, we would expect a top end special edition but this may tempt buyers away from the Evoque, with this promotion it is attracting new buyers to the brand, unfortunately those buyers come from Audi, BMW and the like , I don't beleive the Freelander engine is quite ready for them, the first thing that happens is they come on here and say " I only got 32mpg today, I was expecting 42!"

I had a ponder about your post and I too can't readily recall a car without a load space cover, there are many other silly ideas from many other companies though, BMW smokers pack, a cigar lighter and a plastic dish in which you can start a fire, always standard on every car until smoking became naughty. Every estate car now has "roof rails" in chrome or black for a large fee, buyers fall over themselves deliberating over these, the manufacturers are laughing, they have to put something there to hide the join, rails are much cheaper than hiding the join seamlessly, so they make us pay for their laziness basically, very clever.

Anyway, lets see if we get more members on here with these edition.

SWMBO has just cracked me up, discussing these special editions with her just now she just looked up and said:

"so you get a choice of Herse or Van then?"

In terms of spec it's halfway between S and GS, yet over a thousand pounds cheaper than S to start with, plus you get metallic paint and nice wheels for free Thumbs Up

The only downside as I see is that as it is based on S, is that you cannot add factory fit options - so no armrests or clearview pack either Big Cry

Still 3.8k cheaper than a GS though for those on a budget...

Should be stronger than S and less than GS but imagine "we buy any car" or other similar places will price as S.
