Helicopter Crash in London

Just watching news and they are saying a helicopter has hit a crane on top of a high rise flat and crashed on Vauxhall Road

Very fogging conditions there

I remember driving on that road a fair few years ago and it was gridlocked in rush hour, but they are saying only one car involved

Apparently it was a Augusta 109 Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

dont know much about the 109 or flying helicopter, but if the pilot can't see i dont think any helicopter would make a difference when i crane looms up in front of you Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Talking of fog, we had a 100+vehicle pileup yesterday not far from me on the motorway because of ice and fog Sad

I understand that the 109 is equipped for flying in fog....whatever that means. As for motorway madness in fog....it defies my understanding. There was a big pile-up on the M5 down here last year and a number of people died. There was smoke on the motorway due to a firework display next to it at Taunton Rugby club. The firework organiser was charged with manslaughter but thankfully the charges have just been dropped. When driving/flying in bad visibility whether fog , mist rain or smoke I feel we need to take responsibility and drive accordingly. it seems I am in a minority on this. John

The newer aguatas with ifr can fly in fog. But generally flying a helicopter in fog is a no go, especially over built up areas!

apparently the pilot was very experienced, used to fly air ambulances, did flying for films etc

I think this incident has been quite lucky, that only 2 have lost their lives, as it could have been a whole lot worse Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Tragic incident. Condolences to families who expected to see their loved ones return from their normal day to day business
