FL 2 software update prices!?

Hi there guys and girls!

Bought my 1st Freelander 2008 gs before Christmas (not my first LR by a long shot tho!) and it's great!!

It's got full history but hasn't seen a main dealer since 2010!!

I'm planning on getting it remapped next month and the chap doing it has said to get the latest software update from main dealer first.

I phoned my nearest Main dealer and got quoted £135 for a software update and they even had the audacity to tell me to wait with it because it would only take 5-10 mins!!! And to pop in any time because they wouldn't need to book a ramp for it!!

Is the price about right or am I being stuffed??

On the plus side they said that included a FREE!! Vehicle check!! Lol

Look forward too your replies!

Vince

I was told there are up-dated every time the car is in for a service, spend a little more and get it serviced, because £135.00 for 10 minutes work out at £810.00 an hour ?? That's almost the labour for a Clutch replacement ??? (not parts) Thumbs Up

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply!

I was told the same thing by my dealer - "get a service and its included"
However the service was £400+!!!!

I'm a marine engineer so can and will carry out the servicing myself parts and oil all for less than £100 so it's a no brainer really!

£135 seems extortionate for a 10min plug in when a labour intensive service with parts is only a few hundred more!!

Anyone else paid for a software update at all?

There are some Independents out there who have the capability to do software updates and don't charge the earth. May be worth checking around. John

Yes and yes I'm afraid, if you can find an independent that can download updates cheaper then hang on to him, offer him your body even as he's worth his weight in whatever Thumbs Up

Some software updates are classed as upgrades and are payable. I had one in my old 07 plate and was quoted half hour labour.

Mine was in for a specific software update. I was having the known issue with the trip computer resetting itself and the fob was sometimes ejecting itself. So, yes, I noticed a difference as all the above were resolved.

So they could solve some existing issues. I wonder if there's any benefit to request an upgrade if indeed "everything works" though...
