He must make a SORN (Statutory off road notice) if not taxed, even if parked off road or private land.

If the objective is to get the car removed asap writing to the DVLA probably isn't going to achieve much. I expect they'll just send the owner a letter reminding him of his obligations and the penalty due for ignoring them but I really can't see them clamping the car or anything like that. And if the car is on private land all he has to do is declare SORN! (And pay the fine, of course.) Similarly, as it's on private land the police aren't going to care, and insurance won't be required.

Did that with an untaxed car that had been "dumped" on my mate's land. When nobody was looking we dragged it onto the road which had double yellow lines. The perplexed owner got done by the police (someone must have tipped them off ) for no tax, no insurance or MOT....and got a parking ticket! Double result!

Need to be careful though. Get caught in the act and you could get done for theft as well as 'driving' without insurance, tax, MoT, etc! |

See if he removes it over night, there is situations were private land is deemed public, not sure why or what but read it earlier so the police might be interested, the fact he drove it last night from behind to the front on public road, ask mid says uninsured, and no tax on the direct gov site, so might not have sorn it either

If it is not taxed and he didn't SORN it, DVLA will be after him for a big fat fine anyway! John

He didn't SORN it because if it says no tax and it was SORN'ed it would have said the SORN registration date on the site.

If a car is parked on private land without permission can the land owner legally remove it or damage the said vehicle? I work for my father in law, he owns a warehouse that has a public footpath that runs through our loading bay. Council can be right t s at times as we get fly tipping now and again and they make us clear it up even though if it wasnt for the footpath it would be fenced off. Anyways, we get people parking on our bit with out permission. At times i'd like to stick a big sticker on the windscreen say no parking but would probably get done for vandilism!
