having a untaxed car removed from private land

at my office, there was a car parked on a section of rear carpark that had been sold to some builders, the owner was asked to remove it when building work started, so he did last night, to the front car parking area Rolling Eyes

the car is not taxed, and i'm told is uninsured, the person lived about 7 houses down the road and has never asked permission to park there, obviously should have driven on the public road to move it

the carparking area is open to the public for people visiting the shops in the row, but not a parking spot for Censored like him, especially when he has a drive with 2 spaces Censored

Whose the best to call, if he doesn't remove it over night?

the DVLA for not been taxed

He must make a SORN (Statutory off road notice) if not taxed, even if parked off road or private land.
You can check if he has by using this DVLA site https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dvla
If he hasn't then report him to the DVLA, the police aren't interested.

I sorted one out down our road being used without tax, DVLA eventually EMailed me to say he had been fined and he had renewed his tax, backdated of course.

Yeah, makes me feel all warm inside Laughing

With the guy down my road, the police said he had valid insurance which let him off their hook and it was now DVLA's responsibility. To my understanding it would have invalidated the insurance but they said no, he still had basic 3rd party cover Confused
However if he was caught by them driving the car then it would be a different matter.

Drag it onto the road then the police can sort it!

If the objective is to get the car removed asap writing to the DVLA probably isn't going to achieve much. I expect they'll just send the owner a letter reminding him of his obligations and the penalty due for ignoring them but I really can't see them clamping the car or anything like that. And if the car is on private land all he has to do is declare SORN! (And pay the fine, of course.) Similarly, as it's on private land the police aren't going to care, and insurance won't be required.

The only legal way to force him to remove it may be for the landowner to take legal action against him, but that too will take time.

Whilst I couldn't possibly support the suggestion of the previous poster Exclamation he may have a point...

Did that with an untaxed car that had been "dumped" on my mate's land. When nobody was looking we dragged it onto the road which had double yellow lines. The perplexed owner got done by the police (someone must have tipped them off Whistle ) for no tax, no insurance or MOT....and got a parking ticket! Double result!

Trying to say that he was not the one who put it there apparently cuts no ice with Mr Plod. John

Need to be careful though. Get caught in the act and you could get done for theft as well as 'driving' without insurance, tax, MoT, etc!

See if he removes it over night, there is situations were private land is deemed public, not sure why or what but read it earlier so the police might be interested, the fact he drove it last night from behind to the front on public road, ask mid says uninsured, and no tax on the direct gov site, so might not have sorn it either

Will see what's said by the dvla and police and council tomorrow, if not moved, then if no where the landowners solicitors which we act for can deal with it, Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

If it is not taxed and he didn't SORN it, DVLA will be after him for a big fat fine anyway! John

He didn't SORN it because if it says no tax and it was SORN'ed it would have said the SORN registration date on the site.

Stick a notice on it, "Free to a good home, must be removed today"

If a car is parked on private land without permission can the land owner legally remove it or damage the said vehicle? I work for my father in law, he owns a warehouse that has a public footpath that runs through our loading bay. Council can be right t Censored s at times as we get fly tipping now and again and they make us clear it up even though if it wasnt for the footpath it would be fenced off. Anyways, we get people parking on our bit with out permission. At times i'd like to stick a big sticker on the windscreen say no parking but would probably get done for vandilism! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
