Weird fuel tank problem

Since I came back from my last off road trip, when my FL2 gets down to around 40kms range left in the tank, it becomes harder to start and cranks over longer. Also, when I fill it up now from that point it takes around 70 litres of fuel. Before, I could never fit more than 62-63 litres in it. I have tested this at 3 different garages because I thought the first one was ripping me off. I didn't think the tank could hold 70 litres. It took a few hits underneath on the trip but nothing that seemed serious. Still drives nice. Any ideas?

Hi Mike,
The fuel tank is 68 litres at home and export models, seems to me that your showing of 40 kms left is in reality a lot less and you were running on vapour. On saying that it should stop the engine before a critical limit is reached to stop air from entering the fuel lines.
I would not trust the accuracy of the 'sender' in your tank, especially after the few hits.

Yes, -3 litres the first time as it took 71 litres. I only filled it to the first click of the pump as well. I think that the trigger for limp mode is the computer range and is set to 5 kms left to travel. It seems that I would run dry before that. I think you are correct. Smile

I recently managed to get 70.26 litres in mine, and the light had been on for a while but the range still showed 14 miles - bit of a close call I think!
