"But for those in warranty that have strayed away from a dealer, who is going to fight your corner, who will be looked upon favourably if that clutch goes or haldex fails.

Its wrong I know, but LR will only consider helping you out financially towards a repair if you have been loyal within warranty. Stray and you're on your own."

This statment is simply not true.
Landrover dealers are franchise from landrover. If you have your car serviced elsewhere and then somthing goes wrong you can still get landrover to pay a controbution towards the cost even outside of warranty, I know this to be fact as I have done it. There is not much differance in contribution either.
Having a full landrover service history might well add £500 to to the sale value but if after a typical 3 year period you would have payed more than that in the first place.
Softwear updates, no problem, jut pop in to any landrover dealership and they will gladly take your money and install the latest updates.
Ive also do this too. When it comes to money there not bothered if you havent been in in a while but glad your there now as it adds to their profits.

if it was a optional thing, the service check sheet says 3 years, the service book says 3 years irrespective of mileage, so LR themselves are saying it need to be done

I have just looked at my 3rd year service sheet and they have crossed it out, not ticked it under A or B

also my view is if Land Rover say it should be replaced at 3 years and you take it to a LR dealer to have its 3 year service you would expect that it is services to LR requirements, not what the garage thinks should be done, they also should have ask me what i would like if it was optional and not assumed

Agreed, at the very least you should have been asked.

Yourself and your family are at risk from brake failure due to natural water contamination. Over a period of three years the boiling point of brake fluid can be reduced by up to 50% so when heavy braking is needed in an emergency brake fade could occur, or the pedal goes to the floor.

Another reason for doing it is to stop the moisture in brake fluid from attacking the internals of the braking system, especially the pistons and cylinders, bringing on more cost because of early failure.

The onus should not be on the customer, especially when the majority of drivers no nothing other than it being a means of transport. Of course Freel2 members know different Thumbs Up

My dealer in Leeds are now saying its no longer a scheduled item on the service and not included in the cost of service, as they service them in accordance to what LR says.

They have yet to explain why i wasn't advised that it needed doing at the time of booking in the car for service, during the service or even after the service was carried out. They said its a recommendation, but the service book says it must be done.

Waiting on the service manager to call me back now, but atleast its not a costly job, were only talking £66 inc VAT, its not exactly something to think about at that cost

I haven't had my second service yet but when the third comes up I'll be having it changed, the FL2 is heavy to stop and I'd like to think the brakes would do it.

Like you I will probably have to mention it, and I think it should be mandatory.

All sorted, they should have asked me, they didn't and have asked me to bring my car in to have it done FOC when convenient

Can't ask much more than that and happy with the outcome and explanation Smile

When I queried the brake fluid change the dealer said that they had checked it and it didn't need doing. Has not affected the LR extended warranty. I think I might get it done next time but tbh I have never had this done on any car and it doesn't seem to make any difference. Of course it needs changing if the brakes have had heavy use, so would be more advisable on an auto or if regularly towing.

On the three year service on my previous Freely I queried the brake fluid change but was told "No we don't change it unless it needs changing now, it is checked for water contamination, if its contaminated we change it if not we don't unless you actually want us to do then we will".

And I've seen the post from Liam @LR so why don't the Dealers want to do it, if its an extra charge ok, but they still want to wriggle out of doing it Question

M J Fews did my 3 year service together with MOT AND changed brake fluid for a total of £313.07 inclusive of a courtesy car.
