Door Locking

I have noticed today - after catching some youfs trying their best to get into my car whilst parked outside my workshop, that the drivers side rear door is not locking.
I always give the remote 2 presses when I lock, and for some reason tried the door handles today after said incident, and the rear door opened, but the alarm did sound immediately.
If you push in the little latch by the door release lever inside it locks as it should.
Any ideas what would cause this - answers on a postcard please.

I would guess the internal switch drives the lock directly.

Perhaps it's a faulty central control motor - perhaps jut a coincedence that theytried getting in! 2002 Honda VFR800
