Replacement SAT NAV Screen

Hi Guys.... Can anyone help?

I was travelling in my 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 using the SAT NAV when it suddenly seemed to reboot. The screen came back on with the LandRover Logo but with no touch screen options to choose anything. After a short time of maybe a minute or so the screen then shut down and went black. Its been like it ever since. I phoned my usual servicing company (not main dealer) and they advised me that they have no software for diagnosis and that I should take it to the main dealer. The main dealer cost me £158 for diagnosis to tell me that the Screen itself has failed. They said they swapped it out with a working one and also tried mine on a working SAT NAV and the fault followed with my screen.

Trouble is that they tell me that a replacement screen is only a few pounds short of £1000 which for a 7" low resolution touch screen display seems absolutely ludicrous. They told me the rest of the SAT NAV is still functional. I told them I could buy three or four laptops for that kind of money! And of course... the item is not covered under the top of the range extended warranty/assist package that I have!

So can anyone advise me of a place I can get a suitable replacement screen, not necessarily a Land Rover part, at sensible prices that would still give me the functionality of the original one? (Link please)
Or maybe could someone advise me as to the best Non Land Rover SAT NAV that can be fitted? (Does this mean I will have a used original, very expensive one to sell on fleabay?)

Any advice to overcome this problem would be much appreciated. Thanx

The main dealers report said they carried out a Hard Reset.

I had a screen fault earlier this year and the dealer did the same thing - swapped out my screen with one from another vehicle. They quoted £900 for a replacement but I bought one from a forum member and fitted it myself. It's a really easy job. There's usually a few on eBay too. 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey with full HST styling.

Check the link to download a pdf on this page.

http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic3507.html

This PDF will show you where the main screws are located for dash removal.

Once these screws are removed the sat nav unit lifts straight out. 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey with full HST styling.

You only need to follow steps 1 to 3 on the pdf and then just take the whole dash frontage off - it unclips. Here's a summary of what you need to do.

Remove the rubber mat from the fascia pen tray.
Remove the two Torx screws beneath.
Remove the dash top speaker grille trim by unclipping at the windshield end and sliding back away from the console fascia.
Remove the two Torx screws in the upper part of the trim, that are revealed.
Unclip the fascia by sliding a trim tool in behind each lower corner of the fascia panel and then lift upwards towards the screen

Whole procedure takes 5 minutes! Very Happy 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey with full HST styling.

Replacement screens

May be shot down over this but has anyone tried using a small "tablet" in the dash "hole" which can be set (by app) to a downloadable navigation system.

Just curious as this may be a way to go and there are tablets cheaper than many dedicated sat navs. Tony
