Split air intake pipe. Consequences?

I found a split in the air inlet pipe downstream of the MAF sensor, see pic in my gallery, and wondered what the consequences might be. Since I changed the pipe I've noticed an increase in fuel consumption (real not perceived) and wondered if the ecu might need a reset. Would disconnecting the battery for a while do it?
