Tailgate and Central Locking Problems

Hi there,

I'm new to this but can already see the advantages of using this forum. Lots of very useful info!

Here's my problem,

I've an 07 FL2. Every time I close the tailgate it's not registering ie. it'll say 'tailgate open' on the dash. In turn this means that I can't lock the car.

Can anyone shed any light?

A couple of months ago I changed the electronic switch in the tailgate to solve a different problem-the tailgate wasn't opening with the switch, or with the remote-it only opened whilst pressing the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously on the dash.

Could my tailgate switch be faulty again?

Did changing the switch solve the original problem? Is anything getting trapped between the Rubber Seal and the Tailgate. Has the Tailgate Lock been moved and needs realigning, there are a couple of Rubber Screw in stops, have they been screwed out and not allowing the Tailgate to close?

Hi there,

Yes, changing the switch solved the original problem.

From what I can see there's nothing trapped. The tailgate is closing as normally as it ever did. I removed the lock, oiled it and cleaned the electrical connection to see if it would help (and it didn't).

Everything seems to be in place and the tailgate is closing and latching fine.

Is there a sensor that tells the central locking that the tailgate is closed? Could this be what's faulty?

Yes there is a sensor/switch on the bottom latch.

leave something on the floor and slam the boot shut, it partially catches, but not fully.
You cannot lock the car, because it knows that the latch is not fully engaged, you cannot open the car from the outside, because the unlock solenoid is not strong enough to overcome the jammed latch.
You cannot get to the lock on the inside because you have the full height dog guard fitted, that is secured from inside the boot.

Bet you make sure the latch area is clear in the future. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Thank goodness I don't have that problem!

Would it be safe to say, the bottom latch is the next thing to try?

Does anyone know if this is a serviceable part or is it a sealed unit that just needs replacing?
