Sock recommendations?

I recently purchased some new boots as per this topic: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic13415.html

I thought I would try them today whilst walking the dogs. Not because it was cold but because I just wanted to try them out.
They are supportive and comfortable but with one problem. The fact that they are tall boots means they are tighter around the ankle area and I was just wearing a basic pair of white sports socks as I do not have any official walking socks.

The lining of the boots is a soft and smooth thermal lining but it was rubbing against my socks and the socks are quite coarse so I have ended up with minor friction burns around my ankles Rolling Eyes Laughing

What I think I need is a soft and smooth pair of socks so to avoid friction problems. So, to those well versed in walking and the gear associated with it, what socks would you recommend? LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

We walk a lot Doc, the socks we would recommend would be '1000 mile' range of socks', here's a site for reference http://www.specialistsocks.co.uk/m2/1000_Mile/index.html

+1^^

But don't be tempted with too high a season rating, if your boots are thermal you will cook your feet

Cheers Thumbs Up

You are right about the rating Taz. These boots are apparently suitable down to -30C so just a normal rating will be fine. I just wanted a quality material that will not subject my ankles to friction burns when the boots are rubbing up against them.

Those one's do look the business Smile LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Interesting threads... the one with the boots and this one with the socks...
Hope you won't go higher than that on the body with the questions/recommendations... Laughing
It will be quite awkward to see questions and/or recommendations about long johns, boxers and other underwear stuff.... Whistle
