There have been Panda 4x4s for years, and they've always had a pretty good reputation for off-road ability. They're light, which helps, and are supposedly surprisingly capable.

"This is a proper off-roader." Not sure I'd go that far though.

Used to drive a Fiat Pand 4x4 a good few years ago. It was a very capable vehicle! 1998 300TDi Auto Disco, never to be forgotten.

I would still rather drive that than let LR produce the DC100

So why was the first thing I looked for the towing eye? Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

You were wondering if it would be able to pull your Land Rover out when it gets stuck?

well you may laugh but i too had a Panda 4x4 Fire 1.0 which i purchased new in 1987. I kept it 20 years and it covered just over 210,000 miles.

In Snow it was fantastic, more sure footed then my FR2 just due to the fact it was so light. You could drive at 50-60 in deep snow up and down hill no problem at all. The Fr2 does slide a bit in the snow.
The skinny mud and snow tyres were excellent too on the Panda.

My Panda did tow with a snatch tow a 7.5 unloaded truck out of a ditch where he had parked on soft ground and the wheels had sunk, about 6 months after i had towed it out the ditch a customer of mine caught up with me and said he had actually watched in amusement me attempting to tow it out until it came out ! then he thought RESPECT.

Mine was utterly reliable and did not rust away as I looked after it and still looked great at 20 years old.

I owned a series 2a Landrover when i had my panda and the panda knocked spots of the landy in snow.

This would give you an idea of their off road capability

If you really want a laugh heres a panda 4x4 drifting in the snow with a Suzuki 1000 bike engine fitted

Good in snow no question with the weight aspect and during my first winter with the FL2, it did slide a bit when turning into a side road whilst going down hill.

However, no such problems with that since fitting winter tyres. In all honesty, put winter tyres on both cars and in 'normal' snow there won't be any difference but the FL2 would inevitably get further in deeper snow because of the greater ground clearance.

Of course the Fiat is far cheaper but then they are two different cars for different markets. Put it this way, if I owned both cars and both had winter tyres, the FL2 would be my choice if venturing out into heavy snowfall. Being behind the wheel of the Fiat would not inspire the same confidence as a Land Rover. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Nah - I don't think so - it does not even have opening doors! But we could use it to send someone for fish and chips all round while we wait. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!
