Oil Cooler

Hi Guys,

I do a fair amount of towing with my FL2, and am considering having an aftermarket oil cooler fitted to the trasmission. When towing the boat longer distances, I can actually feel the transmission getting pretty warm down around my feet.

Only concern is about the new-car warranty, but in my opinion it's only doing good?

Anyone done it? Thoughts?

There are quite a few of users on here that tow fair distances including me, albeit with diesels, but not one has ever complained of transmission heat. Then again your feet are on the wrong side of the car Whistle
If it is a problem you would know about it soon enough by a warning light. I haven't read of anyone that has added additional cooling to their vehicles including the ones that tow their vans into mainland Europe.

Have you been wading?

The main radiator is mounted behind the aircon radiator, this in turn is mounted behind the intercooler.
Mud can (and will Evil or Very Mad ) get through all three, it then bakes. jet washing might clear the intercooler and the top of the aircon radiator. Jet washing at the local garage (8 times in succession) will not clear the main radiator, but will Censored the fins so that the damn thing will need replacing anyway.

I am just presuming that the oil cooler is in the main radiator - or uses the cooling water in a heat exchanger.

Towing the caravan a few years ago around Europe, mistakenly believed there was no speed limit on the autobahn so towing at 90mph, the transmission was cool. Towing in Uk this year (17C) transmission and engine overheating due to blocked radiaor. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

You can always choose to upgrade the transmission oil cooler to the hot climate version.
Just an additional cooler and a few pipes to buy...
