Winters on the way : terrain response.

Just reading the book for the wife's fr2 as she has asked about the terrain response.
Can the terrain response be switched while the vehicle is on the move ?

Say she was driving up our road in the snow, it has a very slight incline but catches us all out in winter. Could she get half way up and swap program's ?

Cheers

Indeed Thumbs Up

Going to have the winter tyres put on at the end of October and hoping for serious snow as opposed to the crappy winter we had last time. With those on and terrain response in GGS, the FL2 is as unstoppable as it's going to be short of studded tyres et al. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I rarely even bother to switch to snow-mode, as the FL2 elegantly handles the snow in standard-mode. But if the snow is extreme, you can switch while driving. But if you have proper winter-tyres, the need to use snow-mode is rare. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack.

You can change terrain response whilst driving but I think it doesnt suddenly change. I'm sure mine sort of fades into the next selected programme to save any sudden difference in driving characteristics. Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

Do I have to keep my foot on the accelerator to get the terrain response to kick in and do it's magic? Or just let off the gas as soon as I feel the wheels slipping or car going sideways?

Thanks! 11 SD4 HSE Stornoway Grey / Black Windsor Leather

Just turn the knob. Check your display. Easy as that. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack.

Terrain Resonse selected by turning the knob.

If the wheels start slipping and you keep the foot on the accelerator you'll induce traction control to kick in but the recommended method to get things back under some semblance of control would be to slow down and select the appropriate TR setting.

Once you've selected the terrain response setting you want, the car will do it's thing. If you start to get stuck at low speed you have to keep the revs above 2000 for the magic to work, aparently. Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

Traction control will kick in well before you hit 3000 rpm. If the wheels are spinning TC will kick in with only a slight increase in revs, just enough for the car to realise that you need TC to get you moving again.

Sorry, I've edited my last post to read 2000rpm not 3000 (that's me typing too fast). That's what I was told by the instructor on my Experience drive in a FL2 when I asked about going up slippery hills in the snow. Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

yep, 2000 is right, below that the wheels will happily spin all day and you will go nowhere, at that figure or thereabouts the traction control stops the spinning wheels and power is transferred to the remaining wheel/s.
The TR system affects the amount of wheel slip allowed and the torque curves of the engine, Experience days are a great way to learn what it will do, in the safety of someone elses car Laughing

A little bird told me that MY13 Freelanders will be available at a LR Experience Centre near you in the next week or so.

I have an experience in an Ewok at month end and a spare voucher, might try the new FL.
Be 12 months before I change at least and don't think I will trade up, although by that time it may be getting too close to the FL3 to have another 2, hmm decisions decisions.
