The standard GS Alpine speakers are really crap... Hands free phone is muffled and quiet even at low volumes.

How odd. They sound fine in mine and the subwoofer helps matters as well. Never had any phone complaints. Have you tried various tone settings? LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Yup, tried lots of settings... Both my GSs have been the same. The stereo is ok, but it's the sound from my iPhone over Bluetooth that just seems muffled and too quiet. Up on 30 volume at motorway speeds I have trouble hearing. Could be old age creeping in 2012 DISCOVERY 4 GS AUTO ORKNEY GREY

It's the same setup in my XS and no complaints here either. I use my iPhone on the AUX port and volume 10-12 is more than adequate at 70. No phone complaints either. Perhaps you could query it with the dealer. 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

Do you have many conversations whilst driving on the motorway? It always seems like they are mumbling on the other end.

A few times on the motorway but mostly A38 during morning and evening rush hour. It probably is inferior to other cars systems but for the use I get, I can't complain. Only had trouble when the signal goes and it sounds like I am talking to a dalek LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Surely, if the sterio sound is OK its not a speaker problem. Must be a phone setting. |

What I mean is music is fine, but talking is not loud and clear enough... It's more like an equaliser setting, but volume when using a phone.
