Land Rover Experience - Evoque

Went to Honiton on Saturday for the LRE that my main dealer service qualified me for. Went out in the Evoque, auto of course but I'm not sure of the model.

My only question is, WHY would anyone choose one of these? The latest fascia is very nice but the dynamics, especially off-road, are virtually identical to the Freelander, there is far less space for passengers and/or luggage and it's as ugly as sin Whistle

Now if someone would swap me my Freelander for a RR Vogue, that would be a different story............. Thumbs Up Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

I think it will be Evoque next for us. It is big enough for us two and our luggage.

FL2 is a tired design now. I've bought three...time for something that looks different next time around. The MY13 has no metal changes - living up to the Rover name now by just changing bumpers every few years.

Evoque has slightly better ground clearance than a Freelander by about 5 cm (actual difference will depend on tyres and weight of vehicle and passengers), otherwise ability off road is virtually identical.
The facelifted interior of the Freelander brings it up to virtually the same as the Evoque and you still have the benefit of the extra space in the Freelander.

Is the Evoque miles better than the Freelander - in my opinion no and I've recently driven both. Evoque is a lovely vehicle to drive on and off road but I still prefer the Freelander and with the facelift I'd prefer it even more.

Suspect the Evoque at LRE is an SD4 Auto Prestige.

I guess LR are giving the customer the choice, as opposed to their old ways of giving you very few models and minimal variants.

Neither is better or worse than the other, just one is more appropriate to a particular user than the other.

I think the Evoque is beautiful in 5-dr guise (I'm just not a 3-dr fan, others are, great) and I think it would make a great vehicle for me. But our LR is my wife's car, she needs to get the two kids (babies) and their massive seats in the back, double buggy, shopping, etc. so we have a Freelander.

The Evoque just looks right, it's lovely and compact. I still thing 1998 Epson green Freelander 5-drs look great and I think the Evoque will too!

Hope you all enjoy your LRs, in whatever firm they may take, as I enjoy ours.
Harvey

Will have to stick with Freelander, as you would not get all of Mrs M,s cruise cases in the in the evoque (6 and counting !!) even with all the seats down , all I have is 1 suit carrier and a duffle bag .!! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Laughing Wales

One thing I should have said in my original post was a big thank you to the LRE folk at Honiton. Everything about the place is so professional, from the excellent comfortable reception area to the way they all set out to make their customers feel special. I've been out with two of their trainers now, Dave and Rob. Both are great at their job. If you lurk on this site, thanks guys. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

I Have driven both and would say the ride in the Freelander is far smoothe than the evoque but the evoque drives more like a car and feels a little more solid.

Personal choice obviously, but if both were identical spec and price i would have to go with the Evoque.

Love my new freelander to bits, do get me wrong and its a far far better car than i expected, but i love the design of the Evoque

As said its purely down to personal choice, if we were all the same the world maybe less war riden but boy it would be boring

My latest LRE was with my daughter's boyfriend, Dave, who had never driven off-road but is looking to replace his now-defunct company car, which was a 4WD Audi TT. On-road he complained about the wallowy ride of the Evoque compared to the TT. The Evoque we drove didn't have the magnaride; Rob (LRE trainer) said that it makes a huge difference compared to the standard suspension.

Dave was quite blown away by the Evoque's capability on the tracks and slopes, commenting on how strange it felt to be driving what felt like an upmarket saloon in places you'd normally find a tractor! Don't you feel good to know about Land Rovers? Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

cant really compare A TT's ride to Evoques as they are totally different. I find the Evoque to handle the bends extremely well considering its size, height and weight.

Anyway on a different matter PM sent

I have the Magnaride in my Dynamic 2.0Si4 Turbo petrol Evoque & there is no way I could corner the FL2 I had like I can with the Evoque - the FL2 would tip over.
The magnaride stiffens all the dampers, steering geomatry etc quicker than an Audi R8 (I believe) thus giving the feel/handling of a quality hot hatch. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

I prefer the Freelander 2

But as it is the wife's car I think she would be happy to change it for an Evoque! Especially the new convertible one........she has not seen it yet luckily...... Black FL2
