How much for new tyres in the UK?

Hello Forum.

Where can I find a good price for a new tyre set please?
I won't be buying the 'best' but a mid range one and I assume the dealership will not be the cheapest deal.

The reason I ask is that I have a set of almost new GS 6 spoke wheels and tyres for sale and they are only fetching around only £270 on ebay. Thats only £70 per wheel/tyre which I figure will be the cost of a new tyre when mine evetually wear down!!

Do I try and flog 'em or stick the tyres at the back of the garage and just flog the rims?

I cant justify keeping them as an offroad set...cos ist unlikely Ill do any. Rolling Eyes

just flog them as you have 18's you will never use them, use the money to buy bananas or something.

Avoid dealers and the national tyre chains.

In my experience small independent tyre outlets tend to give best value. TD4 HSE Auto Caspian Blue

I buy tyres from a guy ive known since primary school who has set up a mobile tyre fitting service. He tell me which budget tyres are as good as big brand ones and visa versa. Fits the tyres in my front yard and wont even take a cup of tea off me, too busy!

Hi scotster,

I am interested at the 17" rims only to use with a set of winter tyres, but I am afraid shipment too expensive.

I have the standard 17" ones on mine, and when I had a puncture back in the summer it was on the edge of the sidewall so the tyre(a Michelin Latitude) was a write off.
All I could get on the day was a Goodyear Wrangler and that cost £120 all in. If I had wanted to wait for a Michelin apparently that would have been over £160. As I had opted for the alloy wheel as a spare I wasnt too bothered.
The Goodyear may not be the same tread pattern but it is there to get me out of trouble, and has since done so!

ps Doesn't the jack have a silly winding handle to it!!
