United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Tonga Green

I upgraded recently with a set of genuine 2012/13 discs I bought off fleaBay. My previous version was 2007.

Took best part of an hour to install and rebooted several times during the process. I think that this must have been due to firmware updates but I can't see any major differences from before. Did it during a drive home.

Auto dim feature doesn't seem to work. Not sure whether it worked before either. When enabled screen is permanently dim. When disabled the screen is bright to the point of dazzling at night. I assumed that with auto dim the display would be bright normally and drop down to a dim light when lights are turned on or ambient light drops below a certain level. Discovery 4 HSE - Aintree Green

Auto dim on my satnav has never worked properly when the unit is cold - takes a good 5-10 minutes for it to warm up.
When cold it is very dim, turn auto off and it's blinding at night.

I think it has been mentioned here in the past, not so much a firmware issue, more a hardware "feature". Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

I guess that the answer is - it depends on what version you had earlier. I updated from 2011 maps, and there was no particular update, it just started working immediately. It's never too late to learn something new...

I am using 2010/2011, sounds like its just a map upgrade with no firmware etc from what I've read.

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black

I just completed this upgrade using a disc I acquired on tinternet. My 2009/10 disc (genuine Land Rover but the only disc supplied with the car) updated to 2012/13 with a professional looking DVD that features all of the Ford based brands on the label and says it is for Western Europe.

Buttock clenching nerves whilst it thought about upgrading because nothing actually happens on the screen except the greying out of the Nav option as mentioned elsewhere. Then it went black, then switched on again and when I tried the button after about 45 mins it just worked. No message to say "Update complete" or similar so I really could not say exactly how long it took.

Graphics look subtly different to me and there is a "cancel route" button on the front screen rather than having to go into "route preferences" to do it. Oh and shopping areas seem to have acquired a parcel graphic on them, industry has a little factory etc. Or was that a feature before? I'm new to this system so probably wouldn't recognise other changes.
