Dashboard camera

If I were to buy a dashboard mounted camera, what sort of price would I be paying for decent quality (not the very best) but that is still good value for money.

I have no clue about what brand is the market leader etc so any pointers would be great. A rear facing one would be good as well as there is the aux port in the boot Very Happy 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

Rather expensive for me at the moment. I did find some cheap one's on ebay but do you suspect that they will be terrible quality at this price?

I can't comment on the quality of the cameras you mention on eBay, but one difference between these and the Roadhawk (or similar) is that the latter incorporates GPS and accelerometers, and so records position, speed, acceleration and deceleration, etc, as well as the video. I.e. it's closer to a proper automotive black box.

Of course, recording your speed can work both ways...

I don't currently own a Roadhawk, but am considering purchasing one.

Your ebay ones are big and ugly, the Blackview ones are nice and discrete. If you look on the D3 forum lots of members have hardwired the power in to the car.

Been very impressed with my blackvue so far. Quality is great I have the top one at £210ish (found I discount code on the net.
There are cheaper blackvue options though too.

Would stay away from the eBay ones as the one thing you need a dash can to be is reliable...

I bought one off ebay, ok at first but after a week it developed a fault inso far it wouldn't restart on ignition on after being switched off.
Back for a full refund.
Bought a Roadhawk instead, far better quality than ebay stuff.
Haven't had the slightest trouble with it, it just works as it should.

I have one similar to the cheaper eBay one. Got it to see if I would bother using it, and then if I did, move on to the roadhawk. I still have it!!, great little thing, hardly noticeable just to the left of the rear view mirror. I ran a extra long USB lead just inside the roof lining and then under my seat and into the aux socket, can't see any wires at all. You need a decent SD card (32 gig class 10) but these are cheap now. It records in 5 minute cycles and so is very easy to find any time slot.
Ok, it's not up there with the ones mentioned on here, but, it's cheap as chips and records what happens. Thumbs Up
