Tempted?

Hi, just joined this site having haunted Disco 3 for ages (hello Discodunc).
Having just driven an F2 for the first time I was well impressed and this has tempted me towards possible purchase instead of a D3. Just wondering if there are any particular issues you seasoned owners might make me aware of. Apologies if these have been covered in detail elsewhere on here. I will do a more exhaustive search on my return....

I have a black loaner from harwoods, cannot wait to give it back, wont even park it in my driveway
in case the local riff raff make an appearance and ask for a 'wrap' or something...

Now back from the day's toils (don't seem any richer though)
The one I looked at / drove, an '07 SE manual, one owner 70k with FLRSH was indeed black with rear privacy tints. It did look the part but having had a succession of LR's (Discovery 1 & 2, Freelander 1, several Defender's) in the past, I wonder whether the LR2 is just a bit too car like.
If I'm honest, I would still like a D3 (budget a bit tight I know at £11 - 13k) but having heard about well documented issues - EPB, EGR etc I wondered if there were any common recurring weakpoints on the LR2 that you good folk know of.
Whatever I end up with will be a 2nd car and not a daily driver.

You should try And buy my old se manual with 50k mles that I part exchanged into sturgess Leicester a few weeks ago. Great car, very reliable.
My new one, only 5 weeks old has had more issues than the old one did in 2.5 yrs......

Much as I like my FL2, as you're planning on it being a 2nd car and you've had Discos and Defenders before, I would go straight to the D3.

Hi Rubovia Thumbs Up

sorry, not been on here for ages - had a little project that has taken a lot of my time..

The FL2 is a good choice. Mrs DiscoDunc loves hers and its a great drive when I use it instead of the D4.

I think you will find the scores on the doors are the other way around, link me to where the statistics says "a lot of auto owners have had g/box failures" and "some manual owners have had early clutch failures"

6 in this thread http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic8909.html?highlight=auto and too numerous to mention regarding clutch threads.

2012 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Orkney Grey

I came to the FL2 (new XS SD4) after five years in a D3.

D3 is an awsome car, but, the SD4 leaves it for dead on the road. Basically the FL2 is a much nicer drive than the D3 ( I believe the D4 is better!).

I did not need all the space that the D3 offers so no problem with FL2.

FL2 more reliable than D3 (According to Team Valley Land Rover, they get less warranty work to do on FL2s than any other type of LR).

Other advantages: FL2 one EGR valve, D3 two EGR valves. FL2 no EPB. FL2 no air suspension (air compressor etc). D3 £460 road tax. Now: 2012 FL2 SD4 XS Orkney Grey
Previously: 2007 D3 TDV6 XS Tonga Green
Before that: 2003 FL1 TD4 "Kalahari" Black
