United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Sumatra Black
Brake Wear

Just had first service- when I collected car they went through check list- confused Rear Brakes 50% worn front brakes 20% worn ( after 15k miles)
I cannot remember changing rear pads prior to 50k miles on previous cars- is it the 'norm' for rears to wear faster than fronts on a Freelander?
Many thanks 2011 XS,Sumatra Black, GONE MARCH 2014- RR Evoque Prestige 5 door ,MY 2014,Loire Blue, Silver Roof, Panoramic roof.

My first service at 13,000 miles showed both sets at 20% worn. Most unusual for rear pads to wear faster than front pads.

The Freelander has EBD (electronic brake distribution) and the old days of fronts wearing a lot faster than the rears have long gone. Older cars 'dipped' excessively in the front when braked hard but the FL2 won't.
It's all dependent upon your type of journey, how you drive, how the car is loaded etc. Each wheel can be braked at a different force to another in an attempt to slow/stop or corner the car in a safe manner so its pot luck how they wear.
On saying that the proportioning valves, yaw or slip sensors may be the cause Neutral

Have you checked them for yourself as on my last service when I run through the check sheet front rear & spare 50% worn, the Tyres had not covered 500 miles & the spare never been used, work that out Laughing

No I have not checked them bit I did call into 'WorldwideLandRover' in Southport who advised me its 'normal' for fronts to wear faster than rears.

I cannot believe say that both back brakes have been 'binding' .
Car has to go back to Hatfields @ Liverpool for a new Aux socket so I am going to be asking a lot more questions re this matter 2011 XS,Sumatra Black, GONE MARCH 2014- RR Evoque Prestige 5 door ,MY 2014,Loire Blue, Silver Roof, Panoramic roof.

Just looked at my last service sheet.
Front pads 10mm
Rear pads 8mm

After 14,547 miles it seems the rears are wearing slightly more than the fronts. Seems my setup is OK.

My rear brake pads were replaced during the third service (43000 miles). The fronts were OK and expected to last until the next annual service.

France 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Narvik Black

There is some evidence that the rear calliper sliders can stick a bit and hence wear the rear brakes prematurely. I know that when I replaced all the discs and pads on my car I had to give the rear anchor plate and calliper a good going over with the rotary wire brush to get them to a satisfactory state whereas the fronts weren't bad at all. The rear pads were down to 2mm but the fronts had about 4mm left. A bit of Coppaslip on the sliders helps. John
