I am about to px my 59 plate Freelander 2 S manual for a 61 plate GS auto. My current car has a fixed Witter tow bar & 7 pin electrics and I want to remove it before I get rid of the car and then re-fit it to my nearly new car. I've looked at the mountings and they look relatively straight forward. Does the bumper need to be removed first? I'm not 100% certain regarding the wiring though. Everything is tucked away behind the trim in the nearside rear corner. The wires from the trailer socket run into the car and then into a small control box, from this box they seem to be spliced into the main loom although there is a spare grey plug that does look as though it's a LR plug. Is it ok to just disconnect this box etc and tidy all the remaining wires up? One last question. My new car has rear sensors, will the tow bar affect the operation?

On the Witter site there was the instructions on the fitting of the Witter Bar, it seemed possible to fit the bar with out removing the bumper, but it meant drilling some holes in the bumper behind where the rear reflectors are to get a socket through, even then I reckon it would be a fiddly job, easier to remove the bumper, a couple of hours on a Saturday morning within a few mugs of tea would be better. Having done the same but not with a Witter bar I'd take the bumper off.

The towbar should be a simple process of undoing nuts and bolts and no the bumper should not need to come off. Its the left reflector that may need to come out to reveal access to a nut.

Thanks for the tips etc. I'm going to take the car into work tomorrow and have go at removing it. I'll let you know of any issues. I always find it's a damn sight easier removing / taking things apart than putting them back together, fingers crossed and thanks again, MAx |
