Yes it's very good - regarding the insurance, the DVLA check your details with the insurance industry database and when it come to MOT's you don't need to produce them either now as they are electronically registered.

These data bases are only as good as the people who are inputting the data. My son had his car written off by an insurance company who he wasn't even with. He didn't know anything about it until he sold the car and the new owner came to insure it. The registation number was only 1 out from the number of the car that should have been written off.

It may well be easy to renew Road Tax on-line, however this is also part of the Governments grand plan to save money and in the process make local Post Offices less and less viable.

Jan, I'm very sorry that our village subpostoffice will be closing in February and we will have to travel 16 miles to carry out postal things, however we have never been able to buy our road tax in it and for 4 years we haven't been able to buy a TV licence there either. Pensions and stamps are about all that subpostoffices are allowed to sell these days........................... oh and the odd postcard! How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

Yes that's sad Tim. However, even those POs that did sell road tax (our village/small rural town) now sell many less, due to the heavy marketing of online renewals by DVLC (alias the Govt)

I shall continue to renew my Road Tax through the Village Post Office. The Government has already removed TV Licensing renewal and tried to take away pension payments from The Post Offices.

This is the price we pay for the advances in technology.

We at least still have a bank in the next village , with 6 staff! The branch in my village was a part time branch in a proper bank building that opened 3 days a week, then it became a mobile bank and now we have to travel 5 miles each way to visit a branch. I use to have online banking but closed it down when the bank wouldn't let me into the system from overseas........................... now I go and have a coffee and natter with the girls in a bank instead of pressing a few computer buttons and am safe in the knowledge that no phisher is going to get my password details! How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

you're right ,,, we have to embrace new technology. Though I'm not sure that was the motivation for the POs being sidelined in Govt affairs. I'm also not sure how the internet will help us posting letters & parcels or indeed drawing out cash! Life is not a dress rehearsal! |

I found out the other week that you can buy postage stamps online now! Ok so they aren't the nice special edition ones, you have to print them out onto self adhesive labels thus saving the PO from the expense of buying paper and ink themselves.

Your experience with the CD tray reminds me of the Peter Serafinowicz sketch on TV regarding the availability of "Internet Ham". You placed an order online and the slices of ham then appeared in the CD tray.
