OBD 2 Bluetooth Adpator and Software Needed

Hi Guys,
A colleague has a Ford Kuga and he was able to purchase from 'The Bay' a bluetooth OBD 2 interface/scanner and software for his Android phone for less than £20... and its works Smile

Now I have an iPhone and there's too many App's with mixed reviews. Have any of you guys bought an App that you'd recommend plus any help with the bluetooth OBD2 scanner??? I'm interested in error codes and general data (if available).

Any help is appreciated as to which App to buy and which Interface works well with it.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Chris,

If you want to use the BT one on your iphone you need to have it jailbroken. The iPhone bluetooth software stack isnt all there and you need to install something called RoqyBT4. This is a paid app as well. about 5 or 10USD i think.

I've done it my self. I bought the BT adapter off ebay because I was getting fedup of getting the DPF messages and not being able to reset them myself. I had a few issues getting it to work on the iphone but eventually figured it out and it works ok. It does seem to switch off after a while though.

In terms of software on the iPhone you have:-

- DashCmd - Good but expensive (34.99USD)
- FuzzyCar - Works pretty well (2.99GBP)

If you have an android device it works much better. You only need to install an app (no messing with the BT Stack). Then you can install something called 'TorqueApp' or 'Torque Pro' It costs about 5 quid and although not as slive as the other software on the iphone it does the job and seems more stable.

As for other options, there is software for PC and Mac, I've had a look at the Mac one which works really well called Movi Pro but again this is about 50 quid.

Hope this helps. Thumbs Up

Cheers,
Knoxy

Cheers Knoxy,
Very helpful. My wife has an Android phone so maybe this is the way to go.

I've seen EOBD2 and OBD 3. Do you know the difference?

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Maffs,

the EOBD2 is just a manufacturers extension to the OBD2 protocol as I understand. So they may add in additional features that are not part of the original OBD-II protocol. ODB3 I'm not really sure.

One thing you will notice is that you don't get all the sensors that the applications can provide. So some will stay at zero or wont do anything whereas others will work fully. When I've used it on mine I get revs, speed, turbo pressure and quite a few others.

If you have an iPhone and don't want to jailbreak it then you can buy the WiFi ODB-II plugs from eBay, but they are quite a bit more expensive than the BT ones and at the end of the day they do exactly the same thing.
