I came with a different approach...

By relay separation of the high beam halogen bulbs, they can be connected in series and powered up by a simple logic only when the engine is running and when the light switch is on "zero" position.
Being in series, the bulb's light intensity is much lower and doesn't dazzle the incoming drivers. More of that, their light is amber and seen from a much bigger distance during daylight...
When the light switch is moved on other positions than "zero", or when giving flashes, the relays switches back on the original default mode.

Power and signals were took from the CJB area.
The logic is simple. As long as there is no signal from side lamps (these are ON on any position of light switch besides '0') the automation (a simple one with an ULN2003 and a relay) supplies the power. In other words +12V when there is no side light.
Now, on each headlamp, I've made a modification like the one below.
When there is no high beam voltage, the normal closed contacts supplies the high beam's bulbs the power needed for DRL through the separate circuit. Being separated from the car's default circuit, the bulbs can be connected in any way or any voltage desired. In my case I've put them in series in order to reduce luminosity.
When the high beam is activated, the power that normally supplies the bulbs makes also the relay to switch the bulbs from DLR power source to default/original power source, thus supplying full 12V to bulbs through the normal open contacts.

Startech do a bodykit for the Freelander 2 that has DRL's fitted. I was thinking of fitting the bumper but its around £600! that.

I fitted DRL's to my D2, in place of the fog lights and they looked great, I will probably do a similar thing on the FL, so many muppets who aren't looking, every little helps I recon North Wales Land Rover Club
