Can't we have a law against old women in Toyota Yaris's who drive at 30 on derestricted roads then INCREASE their speed to around 40 when they get to a built up area? 2013 RR Evoque Pure Tech

My theory is that they see the derestricted sign and subconciously think "fast road, I'm scared" they then feel more comfortable in built up areas and drive faster. On many occasions I have followed drivers along derestricted roads who do no more than 40mph who then leave me behind when I slow down to 30 when arriving in a built up area. I then catch up again when the speed limit goes up to the national speed limit. It seems to me that such people are intimidated by the prospect of driving at speeds of up to 60mph. I have also noticed that often, they don't like it if you overtake on a straight stretch. 2013 RR Evoque Pure Tech 2012 TD4 GS Auto Orkney Grey - gone |

My neighbour is a farmer and his wife drives everywhere at 40-50mph. On motorways she does 40-50 max and coming down our local single track lanes with blind corners she still does 40-50 when 20 is the fastest you can go and still stop in time. She's had loads of scrapes and near misses. I really think she has absolutely no sense of speed - a nightmare. Funny how nobody ever accepts the offer of a lift from her. |

interesting psychology - you may be right. My neigbour's wife gets very scared as a passenger if you drive above 60 , yet she had no idea when she's driving too fast for the conditions/road |

85% percent of all drivers on a road which did not have a marked speed limit would drive their vehicles at a speed that they feel is safe for the prevailing conditions ( 85th percentile rule) however the flaw in that is safety for themselves, not the horse riders, cyclists, pedestrians, motor cyclists etc they may encounter, the other 15% drive slower or faster than they feel is safe for that road, so therefore all the speed limits in the world will not stop bad judgement from the majority or thrill seeking from the minority........... unmarked Subaru Imprezzas driven by traffic plod will ! less signs please and more Old Bill, with discretion for time of day and conditions, ( educational talks I mean) for minor transgressions, and fast track bans for arse holes . A few years ago N.Yorks police ran a " Caught on Sunday -Court on Monday" campaign " aimed a perceived bike problem and ended up with car drivers being done at a ratio of 10 to 1 of the original target i think. It really slowed down the dales roads. The regular sight of 350 odd horsepower of Pro-Drive WRX with blue lights behind the grill, driven by someone who knows is stuff is one of the best things you can do for road safety IMHO. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership
