I work with NSN (Nokia Siemens Networks) and last year they announced there was going to be 17,000+ redundancies globally by the end of 2012. This year (in March) I bit the bullet and offered to go voluntarily. I've been with them for 16.5 years so a half decent package is in the pipeline. (Not enough for for FFRR though ) I finish when the Olympics start and it's kinda kewl to have the whole nation do the countdown for me

In March I was "head-hunted" for a position contracting in the UK/Europe for an Australian company. I've been through all sorts of dialogues, presentations and interviews in Airports - you name it, I've kind of done it as a potential recruit!

Tomorrow I'm off to Melbourne for the final decider, which amounts to "let's see if he fits in" type meeting/interview.

You'll be fine with the short trip, I did a return trip back home from New Zealand in January for 3 days whilst I was out there, you just get on with it!

I know of someone who was interviewed from Australia by Skype - then invited to the company headquarters in Australia for a second interview - the company paid everything

He went in expecting to be grilled thoroughly by an interview panel - he was told "you've already got the job - we wanted you to meet us and we'll help you to find somewhere to live while your here" - he was gob-smacked to say the least!

You'll HATE plane travel for a while afterwards, but as Big Dave says, psych yourself up for it and it's not too bad.

With such a short journey, don't change your meal pattern and drink loads of water on the plane.
When you land back here make sure you don't skip a meal just slot back into the routine, you'll be tired but recover quickly as long as you dont change your feeding patterns or nap at silly times.
