If you can afford a TDV8 RRS then go for it. If its too big then get the Freelander 2

Simple choice really

RRS will be not far off MPG wise, better off road and on it, give you a far larger permagrin etc etc

RRS TDv6 is a really nice car depends on whether you want more interior space of the RRS or not. You will save a packet buying a fully specced up F2 HSE with extras over an RRS SE though. Cannot comment on the performance of the F2 as I haven't yet driven one, but I find the TDv6 has plenty of go and is very quiet and smooth. Fuel mileage is in a different league though - I average about 28-30mpg in mixed A road and motorway driving with no commuting, I hope the F2 TD4 will do much better than that, it should be able to achieve into the high 30's mpg How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

I have a feeling we are gon to be dissappointed with mpg Tim, autoexpress on test with a TD4 averaged 28.4. I know they probably roast the living daylights out of the car but even so! This was a manual so what do you think we will acheive with the automatic?

Apparently the Ford Iosis X concept is the Focus 4x4 and will only be toned down a little Watch their video... its hilarious and quite embarrassing in equal measures.

Concept is rather zooty though

Crumbs I could get better than that in a TD6 Range Rover in everyday driving!

I will request a drive test on a RRS TDV6. Do you think it has beater performance than my FLsport TD4?

Well I hoofed it round on the test drive and the computer went from 29mpg to nearly 31mpg and that included a 3 mile run at 90mph (shhh)

was in speaking to my dealer on Saturday just finalising a few things ready for collecting our Freelander this Thursday.

Anyway he was saying that their demo F2 which now has 400 miles on the clock through various test drives was averaging 38mpg.

No idea is that is good or bad for the FL2 but it is better than what we get with the D3. Fiona

The downloadable brochure on www.freelander2.co.uk has a fuel economy page and that states
Urban 30.6 extra urban 45.5 and combined cycle 37.7 on a F2 TD4, and
17.7/33.0 and 25.5 for the i6 engine.
I know these are lab figures and not real motoring but in my experience with Land Rovers I have generally been able to get quite close to the govt. figures.

Having been a diesel fan for many years, if the i6 could actually achieve those figures I would be getting the same figures for that as I get with my TDv6 RRS and would consider returning to a gasoline engined car, however after seeing the abysmal fuel economy that the V6 F1 returned despite the govt economy figures I am not going to be the one who finds out the expensive way! I'm sure the i6 will also have a horrendous depreciation rate compared to the TD4. How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

My FL1 TD4 averaged 31-32 mpg throughout its 4 1/2 years that i had it. The official figure was 37 mpg. The Xtrail i have now averages 32 against official 37.7 (up from 28 since an ecu fix).

I always find that reallife figures are less than official figures.

Maybe so Simon on subjects like the Iosis but I see no reason for them to prevaricate the fuel consumption figures, another 4x4 mag said getting over 30mpg proves difficult , they would do more test but they were initially dissapointed.
And Scottie, if a sales person told me the average was 38mpg showing on the computer I would want to see it (just for peace of mind really no offence to sales persons
