An interesting article that I noticed on Neowin. As we have 'keyless' fobs I wonder if our FL2's can be stolen in a similar fashion? Though they'd have to be pretty tall to get over the door and down to the OBD port!

Our fobs need inserting into the slot rather than this wireless setup so that might make things a bit more tricky and hopefully the FL2's alarm will perform better than the Beemer's LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Do not go in a slot on Disco's or Range Rovers so can they be cloned as well?

Interestingly I was just talking about this with a mate the weekend...

Personally I think our cars are just as vulnerable, it's just that perhaps the thieves have yet to want to go out and get themselves a 4x4 instead of a 50k sub 6 second coupe...

In my mind the fact that we have to put our fobs in the dash is neither here nor their, there is no sort of mechanical 'lock' mechanism as it is all done by transponder so in theory the same method could apply.

manufacturers are going to need to start thinking about security on the ODB sockets, such as power down, pin and physical locks. Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

With our car I think it all hinges on whether the 'volumetric' sensor also has a blind spot in front of the ODB port, I also believe that a glass breakage would be sensed as the air pressure/movement changed. As to whether it would 'lock down' the car, I don't know.
Of course if you single lock our cars then none of the above is any good, and I'm guilty of that a lot of times.

I am afraid that in the Cheshire and Lancashire areas the toe rags favourite trick with 4x4s is to slide under and cut off the catalytic converter.
