Poland 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Lago Grey

It happens to me every couple of months. I,m getting rid of the stones at the tyre shop near my work. Next time the guy there will drill a hole in the shield so the pebbles will be able to get out by themselves. I must admit that LR didn't pay much attention while developing the dpf in our cars.

Bow down TVLR saved the day.
Pebble stuck between exhaust and shield! Another good reason to be annoyed by tar spraying and road chippings!
Also i will retract my statement about naf courtesy cars- brand new toyota yaris with reversing camera. Lol.
Seems like TVLR have a good thing going with hodgsons toyota rentals...

MightyMildred, I think I might have the same rattle as you had experienced. Can you please give me another hint as to where to look for the problem/pebble? MY10 TD4 SE Auto

Look all the way along the underside you will see the exhaust system with various heat shields along the way, the stone if it is your problem will be trapped between one of the heat shields and the exhaust, try grabbing hold of the exhaust at various places and give it a shake, just don't do it after having the engine on, the smell of burning skin is not pleasant.

Crawled the entire length of the exhaust pipe. No joy. It's clear. Had the engine running. Listened to the sound from the engine bay and from under the car. It sound as though it is coming from around the gearbox area. MY10 TD4 SE Auto

Hi Impact,
Alas, I'm just useless when it comes to being 'hands-on' with my FL2s maintenance, so it was the garage that investigated and found the stone chipping.
Hope you have sorted yours out
Cheers
