Looking for the original part number for a 09 FL2 oil housing

Ordered online the parts for a oil change this weekend and had to refit the origial which is ok but the "nut " is a little worn and needs replacing and I'd like to have a spare

Been to the local motor factors and the part came up the same with a coarse tread rather than the original being a finer thread and overall longer housing

looks like a need to find an offical LR parts supplier
The parts supplier is happy to exchange but needs the original parts number

just a quick update I popped to the local LR 4x4 garage and he had never seen the fine thread type ????

Going from the number of turns needed to take off/put back I would say mine is fine threaded too

Went back to "Car Spares " who I find very good and local
they checked again and came up with the same answer part number LR006205
Phoned Craddocks and got exaclty the same answer LR006205 and they checked the build spec
None in stock to compare and need to be ordered
the guy said it must have had the housing unit changed but check as the genuine part has a LR part number

I can hardly see the oil filter cap , let along read the part number underneath LOL

Still a mystery but the search goes on , at least being a LR owner is not boring

Thanks I had a e-bay session last night and ordered 2 different types based on thread type Citroen and a ford with different part numbers

There were quite a few fine thread caps and look identical to the original pictures so I'm know one is out there somewhere

The LR 006205 in the description is the official part number and the 2 I had previously ordered used this as a reference ???
Don't ask but one was from Germany and advertised as a OEM part

But I will give them a call and see if it's the actual part or just a generic photo

I'm not sure I understand the confusion here - or perhaps it is just me that is confused

In your original post, the housing on the left is the correct part for a TD4 (and presumably for SD4) FL2 (we all seem to agree on this) and this is LR part number lr006205 (as in the link put up by Badger). put that into a search engine & you are overwhelmed with choices to buy - and looking at a few pics ALL seem to be the correct housing.

The housing on the right is not the correct housing for a TD4 FL2 as the thread is too coarse and this is not part number lr006205. Whoever sold you this are wrong if they claim it is lr006205.

Does the fella at the local 4x4 garage claim he services Freelanders? if he does then I'd never take anything for him to work on - he clearly hasn't changed an oil filter... I have done precisely one oil change myself on mine (some months ago) & looking at the pic of the 2 housings side by side the correct one is obvious. 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

Started off with a simple oil change "simples " if you have a 27 mm flexible ratchet spanner before you start :oops: lesson learned
Ordered 2 caps and both arrive and are the same part " yes perfect " no problem until i removed the original and its different
2 supplier send the wrong part ??? so double checked and "yes mate " thats the part ref LR006205

Asked the local 4X4 guys TBH i dont think he was that interested but none in stock to compare £ 35 + vat but have to order it in
Craddocks were similar yes that the part number but its not a stock item "have to order it " so I cant see to compare to the pictures for fitment

Spoke to Brit parts and they need to order as its not a stock item will exchange if its incorrect but he did say the picture are usually of the actual part

Hi, Volvo uses the same engine, I believe on the XC60. I have a complete engine here that hydraulic locked. One could change the whole filter and cooler assembly if necessary. I am in West Norfolk.

Ordered the part from Craddocks and picked it up today and guess what its a fine thread as advised above
the interesting thing its a Britparts cap but its looking good

So to conclude the local parts provider gave me the wrong part even tho they provided me with the LR002605 part number alos a German parts online parts supplier sent me the same part ????

So I assume as the engine is used in several other vehicles the oil cooler block is a bespoke LR part and not the same as the other's hence he variation

The moral of the strory is to find the LR parts number and quote it

There is a small twist the original had a spring loaded inner circular mount the britpart is solid so they may be an equivalent and not OEM but it looks good to fit so as far as im concerned its sorted

Glad you are now sorted. THe engine block is common to many users, so it looks like they all do the do their own thing on parts using a common block. I used to be Quality Liason to Dowty Rotol in the seventies, and most of their threads were 20 threads per inch UNF, so only they could supply genuine parts, good for profits.
