exhaust i think i went to far lol

Was at the custom shop this morning and got them to take that awful td4 back box off and replace it with twin pipes...

They used some range rover pipes but i think they might be abit big. I'll get some pictures up and let you lot help me decide. They removed the silencer completely and it actually sounds abit nicer, not really noticeable inside the cabin but outside it has a deeper note.

I'll try and get some pictures up asap. It looks nice from the back but from the side the pipes look a little too long imo.

As I said i'll let you help me decide Thumbs Up

Yeah where are the pics? Also, what about a sound clip?

I removed the big centre box of my TD5 90 to give clearance for the overdrive and put a straight pipe in. It was not excessively loud (quite a pleasant note) and I guess this is down to the silencing powers of the turbo. I am toying with doing the same to the FL2 as the back box is, as you say awful, and must compromise ground clearance. Taking it off must also save a bit of weight. John

I find it hard to believe that the exhaust noise is hardly noticeable Surprised , the only thing between the engine and the pipe at the end is the catalytic converter, there is nothing to silence it at all Confused
If you get the chance, do an underside photo Thumbs Up
For people who like the twin exhausts just swap the diesel silencer for the petrol version.

looks terrible, if you really feel the need to change the exhaust then the twin pipe from an I6 petrol fits.

I dont get it really the exhaust and box are barely visible , why change them at all ????, just spray the box with a bit of black heat proof if needed At work

I would agree, also you may find a reduction in performance/consumption due to the change in exhaust flow characteristics.

Yeah...pipes too long man!

it will not be too noisy due to the turbo extracting a lot of the noise energy. Also, turbo diesels do not suffer power loss from non baffled exhausts the way petrol engines can. John
