Mudflap prices !! Where to get some nice but cheaper ones ?

Just bought my 5th Freelander. Went for an ex-demo this time rather than new like the previous one in 2007. I enquired about accessories at the same time. Back in 2007 a full set of LR mudflaps cost £62 and now they are £108 !!! Thats a 74% increase in 5 years for exactly the same product. Seems to me LR are having a laugh. And just to confirm that fact, a fitted detachable towbar is over £1000 ! Ive since bought a top of the range removable Witter towbar and dedicated 13 pin electrics for £355 and will fit it myself - easy job. But mudflaps have been more difficult.

Can anyone suggest where to obtain some nice mudflaps at sensible prices ?? It just irritates me to pay such a high price for such a low tech product.

Also here's a tip. Ive kept my old OEM floor mats as new ones are silly money (Ebay is full of people flogging their old ones). I used Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber cleaner and they now look like new now -dark black matt finish) - impressive.

I went for a simple set of flexible Sellico ones from eBay for around £22 for the set, complete with Land Rover logos.

They do the job very well, look good and they aren't going to get damaged, or damage the car, if they ground out when off road.

I fancied these for the front, how do they attach?

According to their website their mudflaps are £116, but I'll try and email Dan

By drilling 3 x 3mm holes into each plastic wheel arch liner and using self tappers.

A number of members on this forum have bought non-genuine LR mudflaps and have been disappointed with quality and fit. Don't compromise the good looks of the Freelander by fitting cheap aftermarket 'flaps. The genuine ones fit well and look the dogs b Censored s! Thumbs Up

And Dan at Duckworths will give you a good price. 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.

£110 in actual fact, pretty much the same as everywhere, but I think that includes uk delivery but I may be wrong.

Ive had some OEM ones on previous Freelanders, the flaps themselves are Ok but the fittings sometimes leave a bit to be desired. I usually swapped them for stainless screws etc. and the fronts can be awkward to fit as they need brackets.

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Sumatra Black

I brought some from lrparts.net eBay store for £50. The fit in terms of the profile was bang on, however I had to drill into the trim to attach the front set. Saved £59 well chuffed. Thinking about getting some side steps from them @ £140 too now. Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual MY11 - 61REG Stratstone Mayfair

In the end went for OEM ones from Duckworths as their price was competitive. Very fast delivery. Thanks Dan

Fitted them myself this afternoon. Rears easy but the fronts are still complex (about 30 pics in the instructions !) and require some drilling and cutting of wheel arch trim. When I think about it, LR are charging a huge amount for a pretty poor product IMO - you dont get much for you money - and have not been improved in any way in the last 5 years when I last fitted some. Again I replaced most of the washers with larger stainless ones as the OEM ones tend to cause the relatively soft mudflap to distort due to not spreading the load well. Yo also dont have to cut as much away as the instructions say.

Having said all that the FL2 looks a lot better with than without flaps.
