Took the throttle body off, the sensor and body inside is pretty gunged up, so is the manifold it's attached to, but I need to get one of the torx security adpaters to get it off.

I'd have posted a pic but didn't know if I could upload or if it has to be hosted elsewhere.[/img]

Dont suppose its related but a local mechanic has recently fixed two fl2's with an odd electrical problem, when you lock the door the electric fuel pump starts, not sure of the exact details but it costs £100 to mend this.

maybe you locked your door and the transfer pump started up and burnt out????

the mechanic is a mate of the guy I work with (also an fl2 driver), hence I heard the story second hand, but its genuine. never heard this problem mentioned on this forum At work

P02E4
Throttle valve stuck during normal engine running - attempt to unstick valve unsuccessful
Check/clear throttle valve from obstruction/sticking

P02E5
Throttle valve stuck closed during normal engine running - attempt to unstick valve unsuccessful
Check/clear throttle valve from obstruction/sticking

P02E8
Electric throttle unit - Internal fault
Check/clear throttle valve from obstruction/sticking

So you see, all the above error codes are related to the throttle valve.
It could be stuck closed and therefore obstructing the air to enter the engine - thus the engine doesn't start.
Remove the throttle valve/mechanism and see what's happening.

The engine will start even with that electrical pump off.
For sure you know that the electrical pump in the tank is only for equalizing the two sadles and the real lift pump is pure mechanical and share the same body with the high pressure pump...

Happy days, it's started at last.

I checked the butterfly valve, stuck closed with gunge, I shoved it with a screwdriver and it flung open, thought I had broken it as it wouldn't stay closed. Anyway, gave it a real good clean, and reached into the manifold and cleaned as much as possible. Seemed to be heavy dried up oil mass !!!!!

Prior to cleanng there was NO gap betwen the valve and the body, after cleaning there was.

There was another sensor attached to the body (can't remember what for) but the access hole for it was bunged up too, so I gave it a good clean.

Only thing i'd like to be able to do now is read the codes myself in future, is there a reasonable "cheap" solution that will read the codes sufficiently to give diagnosis. I love this car and would like to keep it running.

thanks for your help guys, much appreciated, and hopefully this thread will help others in a similar situation.

Almost happy days Sad

I started the car this morning, first time, all seemed fine. But, when I switched off there was a "knocking" noise from the throttle body, about half a dozen times, it stopped and then did it again.

My guess is that I have forced the buttefly valve open, it still swivels but I think it's in the wrong position and the engine is trying to close it on shutdown.

Replace or repair ???? any advice.

For exactly the same reasons, I found a WiFi OBD ELM reader for the iphone (will also work on laptop) which allows you to read the error codes, although according to info on here, it might not reset all of them. About £25 from the bay Thumbs Up Cheers,

Does it work with Andrroid, what software does it use.

I have a plug in unit but no software that can read the codes

I looked at the wireless versions, they are now running around £40 on the bay, as I already have an OBD2 device, i'll see if I can find software that works for it, hopefully someone on here can point me in the right direction.

I ordered the new throttle body, arrives tomorrow, hopefully that will be me back on the road again.

Can anyone advise why the body was so gunged up with oil sludge.

I replaced the throttle body, all seems fine.

Out of curiosity I stripped open the old one, there are a number of plastic gears, one had around 6 teeth broken.

Ordered one of the wifi obd2 readers too, £20
