Just had a look under my bonnet and other than having a layer of "oil" from the duct above has exactly the same threaded hole |

If you look at the other end of the engine cover you will either find another hole or a "pawn thingy" (thank you Mona Geeza!).

Just checked mine and there was no caravan around it, oh and mine was as per your vehicle - un-blanked and brass insert showing. |

Sounds a little like a grease nipple?seems a bit elaborate for a fixing point. |

mine has the pawn/grease nipple shaped stud in that location.

I think the conclusion is then the thingy is only fitted to cars who's owners dont have a caravan then? |

Cannot agree there! I checked today, the stud thingys are fitted and the 'van is still in the driveway! 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)
