Dead Lock Control

Just got my March'07 HSE back from LR having fixed a few of the minor ECU issues again [non start/trip reset, SRS message on startup, roof linning loose after sunroof fix, clunk noise in driver door also asked them to check GRC funtion - just can't seem to get it to function on 10% hills]. I always dead lock the car at night, yesterday morning unlocked the LR with a single press of the key fob and it did not unlock the boot (trunk for the US guys), thought nothing of it as figured I pressed the button. This morning the same thing Question , played with the different lock options. If you dead lock the car it would appear after these ECU updates it does not unlock the boot unless you do a full car unlock or just the boot release or do the particle lock (single lock). Anyone else seen the same - is this a new feature or just another ECU screw-up Big Cry or just me Whistle ?

Hi Mork

I have not had a system update for a while, but upon opening my deadlocked car with one press the drivers door and boot are unlocked. two presses the other doors unlock.

I would prefer to have the one press one-door option, and press the boot button if i want to go in the boot as i feel the boot should remain locked unless to want to go in there or the door unlock button is pressed twice.

Mork,

My car was in a couple of weeks ago and had ECU updates which have changed the locking/unlocking actions similar to what you describe. Reason the car was in was that boot lock switch had failed, could not open boot form outside.

Previously from lock or dead lock a single press of unlock would allow drivers door and boot to be opened, unlock all doors required a second press of unlock.

Now from either lock or dead lock a single press of unlock only allows the drivers door to be opened, a second press of unlock is now required for the boot as well as other doors.

I noticed this change when I was checking the car before I left the dealer, technician came out and I explained to him, but didn't get an explanation from him as to why the change had occured.

Its no big deal but its strange when these changes take place without explanation !!!

check the handbook, to change between the two locking options just unlock car and continue to hold down unlock button for a few seconds.

Just had a software update a week ago and unlocking function changed to what Mork describes. I'll try Tandemman's way of switching back to the old way. Actually the new unlocking function is safer, but I usually use the boot when I first unlock the car, so...

With you all mentioning software updates is there a reason why your getting theses updates i am only asking as i have never had or been told that i would have to have an update ...is this something that is done just when the car goes back to the dealer if you have a problem?

My updates have been done due to non starts and other minor quibbles, i have taken the car in for these and had the updates.

I beleive they will do them if you take it in, unless its a recall notice and you'll get a letter or phone call

If everything is going ok, wait till your service Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

My understanding is that you car will be checked for updates any time it is in the dealers, whether they tell you about it or not is something you would have to ask. It seems software mods are quite frequent, and are downloaded into your car as a matter course if its in the dealers. It like a windows update on your computer. I think the reason some of us have experienced them more frequently is because our cars have a) been back to the dealers more frequently to resolve problems and b) we know about it because we ask.

Letters from LR to inform us about recalls, etc, etc? Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter
For the time being it's just me who sends them letters trying to convince them to take my problems seriously. Confused

SRS means supplementary restraint system i.e. the airbags, seat belt tensioners etc.

I guess SRS shows on the info display while they are being checked upon start-up - but you should probably check with your dealer to ensure it's just an info message.

I can't remember if I get this message upon start-up.............

Thanks for all your feedback. Popped into the dealer on the way back from customer visit and spoke to the sales guy. Well this is interesting, he confirmed this is standard behaviour until I showed him the user manual... then "hummmmm"... he said the hand book is misleading and this was in fact how "his" car worked. We then had a play with the showroom model, which behaved like mine, to unlock the boot you either double pressed the unlock or just the boot opener button. So I have changed the method of opening the car to unlock all the doors with one press (see hand book) as I have had my wife lock keys in the boot in the past by just using the boot unlock and putting the keys down while putting shopping in Twisted Evil so don't trust the boot only unlock method. As I open the driver door and boot most journeys thsi saves the double press method Sad

Interesting twist to ECU update though.

The SRS message for me only happened on start-up.
