Always park in gear - with handbrake on in summer and handbrake off in winter, which is the normal practace in Scandinavia. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

In the 2007 Handbook it states to leave it on gear when on a slope and turn the wheels to the kerb, LR must have got more confident with the handbrake as this is no longer in the later Handbook. |

When you park a manual in gear, make sure the handbrake is also fully on, otherwise the DMF will take all the strain. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice. |

Here's a good example of a new car that has been badly damaged after it appears that the brakes may have cooled and the handbrake failed: http://www.focusrsoc.com/forums/topic/1870...-my-house/ |

Tigger - great example of the reason to leave the car in gear, when parked. Sorry to hear about the damage to the RS, mate. Cracking car.

The damage is pretty tragic but, fortunately, it's not my RS! Pheww!

Very smart Good point made re, being made to feel a lot more comfortable at LR dealerships, but you certainly pay for the priviledge. My ST220 developed a sticking valve at 39,000 miles and full Ford service history. It was 5 years old at this point, but Ford told me to f k off, when I tried for a goodwill contribution. LR have already paid out for one on my Freely.
